liberal studies for early and elementary education

The VCU Liberal Studies for Early and Elementary Education (LSEE) Program is winding down. Launched in 2006 as a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies (BIS) in the College of Humanities and Sciences, it joined with the Master of Teaching in Early and Elementary Education through the School of Education to provide a robust and thorough preparatory program and pathway to licensure for future teachers.

The program will no longer accept new students as of fall 2021, either by admission or by change of major.

The College of Humanities and Sciences along with the School of Education ensure a smooth transition to the Masters of Teaching in the School of Education for all current students through its carefully planned curriculum and attention to benchmark testing and requirements. As long as students are actively enrolled in the LSEE program, the College of Humanities and Sciences will support their studies.

In the fall of 2019, the VCU School of Education initiated two new four-year B.S. degrees in early (PK-3) and Elementary (PK-6) education. These programs will be the available pathways to licensure for PK-6 teaching for new students at VCU.

New students interested in pursuing a career in early childhood education should explore either the B.S. Ed. in Early Childhood Education and Teaching or the B.S. Ed in Elementary Education and Teaching in the VCU School of Education or contact: (804) 828-2813 or SOEinfo@vcu.edu.
